Children's Ministry

We want our kids to LOVE church! Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings during worship for kiddos age 5 and younger. The Fairmount Avenue UMC nursery is a caring and nurturing environment where our kids first meet Jesus, experience the joy of community and friends, and just have fun.

In Sunday School, our goal is to learn about the Bible and hear what Jesus teaches us. We explore different Bible stories, apply the Bible to our everyday lives, and develop spiritual practices like prayer. Sunday morning classes are separated by age/grade so that each group may learn and engage with God’s word through age-appropriate activities and applications. Both classes meet upstairs in the Education Wing.

TGIW activities are about more than Bible study; they are a chance to make friends, build community, and explore how we can live out our faith. We play games, create, participate in service activities, and even go on the occasional field trip. At Fairmount Avenue UMC, we believe that “church” is much bigger than a building, and our Wednesday program reflects that. TGIW is when even the youngest of kids can “do God’s work.” TGIW is combined-age, all kids PreK-5th Grade together. We meet upstairs in the Education Wing.

We love when our kids lead us in worship at Fairmount Avenue UMC! Kids learn the fundamentals of music, the experience of playing an instrument, and the joy of worshipping through music as they sing in the choir or ring handbells in the bell choir. The choirs participate in Sunday worship monthly.

Children's choir (PreK-5th Grade) and bell choir (K-5th Grade) rehearse on Sunday mornings at 10am and Wednesday evenings at 6pm.

At Fairmount Avenue UMC we are intentional about the faith development of our young people. With a series of Faith Milestones, our kids learn about elements of worship, tradition, faith development.

3rd Grade: Bible Presentation
Each our 3rd Graders is presented with their very own Bible to encourage them to explore God’s word for themselves. Throughout this year, they will begin to learn the mechanics of Bible (e.g., What is a book/chapter/verse? How do I find..?).

4th Grade: Acolytes
Any interested 4th grader is invited to be part of Sunday worship as an acolyte. Those who want to participate (or are just interested in learning more) will attend a class to learn about the importance of light during worship and what it means to help lead worship.
