Youth Ministry

Sunday School is a time to learn, dig deeper, ask questions, and have fun.  Our youth learn skills to develop their faith and make their faith their own for a lifetime of exploration.   All Sunday School classes meet weekly at 9:00am - 10:00am

Wednesday Youth Group is pretty, "Dank."  We play, we hang out, we talk about things that matter.  Wednesdays Followers Youth group is big on fun and creating space for our young people to be young people.  We recognize that youth are asking big questions and have different ideas about faith, so we welcome all youth, exactly where they are at in their faith journey as we continue to explore faith, practice, and our connections to them.  Friends are always welcome.

The youth in 7th through 12th grade have the opportunity to participate in a unique week-long summer experience. The purpose of this summer trip is to serve and build friendships: it is a combination of a mission trip and a choir tour.

Every year, our youth create a faith-based program to present on the way out to our mission site and back. in churches and in nursing homes.  This annual trip builds friendships while serving others.  A tradition for more than 40 years, this trip transforms the lives of our youth while they share a message of transformation through service.

2019 Summer Mission Trip

Fairmount Avenue UMC Followers will be partnering with Give Kids the World a Village in Kissimmee, Florida.  This trip will be different than previous trips, in that our work will center around offering hope and healing to families with a child who has a terminal illness.  Our youth will have the opportunity to love and serve families in the hardest season of their lives, by serving at a resort that partners with wish-granting organizations.  The families who stay at the resort each have a child with a terminal health condition and have come for a week to ‘forget’ about illness and make important memories.  

This special place offers both healing and hope as the entire resort is designed to make the difficulty of traveling with a special-needs child as easy as possible and is almost staffed by 1,700 volunteers every week!  Our youth will assist with the food service, entertainment offerings, and general work around the resort.  They will interact with families from around the world who are making important memories, finding rest from illness, and healing in the midst of fun. 

Followers Youth Choir rehearses on Sundays after worship from 11:45 - `12:30pm and sing in worship approximately monthly. 

The Followers Youth Choir sing a variety of music and always add to the worship experience on Sunday mornings. 

Followers Vision Statement:

The Followers are a community of faith. We are fellow travelers on a journey to discover and deepen our faith as we learn what it means to follow Jesus.  We embrace God’s radical love and share it with each other and the world. 

Purpose of Youth Council:

To deepen an understanding of personal faith and evoke spiritual gifts among participants.

To develop leadership skills of youth.

To create a community of inclusion and a mentoring ethic, where youth are both mentored and become peer mentors.

To empower youth to serve, developing an understanding and ability to minister within the church.

To function as a unifying body of all youth programming.

Youth Council meets monthly to make decisions about the youth program and activities on the first Sunday of the month from 12:30 - 1:30.  All students and parents are invited to attend meetings.  Youth Council chair positions include; Council Chairs, Service Chairs, Community Building Chairs, Technology Chairs, and Stewardship Chairs.
